Well, that’s a bold statement! But I didn’t come up with this. This is actually something that is written in the Bible. Psalm 82:6 says “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;”.
Jesus also quoted this passage when He said He was the Son of God and they tried to stone him for blasphemy (John 10:34). But we have to agree that calling a mere man a god is controversial. Maybe you did notice (or maybe you didn’t) that we are called gods but with lowercase “g” and our Creator and only God is called God with capital “G”.
The scriptures say that God created us in His image and likeness. This means, we have qualities that resembles God. Qualities such as free will, ability to create things, consciousness, the power to reign over other creatures, a spiritual body, etc. Human beings are unique among all God’s creations, having both a physical body and spiritual body (soul/spirit). That’s why we have to take care of both our material and spiritual lives.
One of the most powerful qualities we have been given by our Creator, is the free will, which means our ability to choose. This power of choice can be used positively or negatively. Adam and Eve were living in paradise and made the wrong choice and disobeyed a direct order gave to them by God. We all know the consequences of that choice because the world we live in today doesn’t look like paradise at all.
So, we have to agree that it makes sense to consider people as gods because they have the power or influence to impact the whole world, or their own individual world.
The world peace depends on the decision of a few political leaders and businessmen. If they make the wrong decision, the whole world can collapse, and all hell breaks loose.
These powerful men are like gods because they have the power and influence over the lives of many. Each one of us have the power and influence over the lives of someone else. First ours, then our kids, employees, etc.
The power of decision is within all of us. It’s up to you what you do with that power. Even God didn’t take our free will. He made us like gods among all the creatures of the earth, to reign over everything. You have the power to create order or chaos, to love or hate, to improve your financial life or stay in misery, to keep learning or stick to your old and disempowering beliefs, to forgive or hold grudges.
The same way the first humans (Adam and Eve) made the wrong choices which brought pain and suffering to the world, we can also make the right choices and have a piece of paradise on earth. Granted, life will always have challenges, but if we train ourselves to always learn and work on improving ourselves, challenges will become nothing more than inconvenience. We will actually have the ability to turn challenges into opportunities.
Instead of getting into religious and controversial contend, use this statement that “we are gods” as a fuel to motivate yourself and become a better version of yourself.
If we are made in the image of God, why do we have to settle for less? Why do we have to leave in pain, suffering and misery? If God put Adam and Eve in paradise, that means He always want us to be happy and prosper. Otherwise, He would have put them in a bad place. Does that make sense?
I invite you to use your free will and power of decision to put a stop on your pain or whatever is making your life miserable. Just make that decision! You have that power. You were made in the image of a supreme and powerful God who created the universe and everything in it. How can you be a child of this God and keep accepting the beatings of life and not doing anything to change it?
Some would argue that God is in control of everything and that their current situation is God’s will. Yes, He is the Creator and have absolute dominion over everything in the universe, but He expects us to take action and not just sit and wait for Him to do everything for us. He already gave us the tools we need. He gave each one of us different talents. We just need to get out there and multiply those talents. We must take massive action and start producing good fruits in our lives and become a blessing to other people.
Stop giving excuses to justify your laziness and lack of motivation (I’m talking to myself as well).
If you constantly tell your mind that you have power within you and that it’s your obligation to become more because you are a child of a powerful and eternal God, it will end up believing it and refuse to settle for less. Your mind believes what you tell it. You have to bombard your mind with all kinds of positive and empowering thoughts, so it replaces the years of trauma and disempowering beliefs you developed since you were a child.
If necessary, keep coming back and read this article over and over so your mind starts believing it and motivate you to look for ways to take advantage of the power your Creator gave you when He made you in His image.
